Copy cat designs
Over the years car design has developed and today there is a trend to re-do the designs of old. For example the Beetle by VW, the Mini and the Jaguar XK/E-type.
But is this a new thing? Have a lok at the pictures below and check out the similararities between the designs.
The Brazilian made VW SP2 is a rare beast indeed but was the designer of the Datsun 240Z reading a copy of "What Car" back in the 70's??? Me thinks so...
Over 40 years between being penned in a German design house but the lines are pretty close on these two coupe'
German and American two seaters for the mases but both built in the fatherland all-be-it nearly sixty years apart.
So there you have it, proof that air-cooled VW's have influenced the designs of cars for many years long after water flowed into the engine blocks produced by Wolfsburg.
The Fridolin was designed by VW for the Bundes Post and has in recent years become very sort after in aircooled VW circles. The Renault Kango whilst looking like Post Man Pats transport is very similar to the aircooled letter lugger.
Back to the furure....not many years between these two but similar none the less.
